First step is a substance abuse education, information and referral program that is offered at no cost to Morris County residents.Services are provided Monday through Friday from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm at the Morristown Community Soup Kitchen, located at the Church of the Redeemer, 36 South Street in Morristown and during additional office hours at Cornerstone, located at 62 Elm Street in Morristown.

Addiction is a chronic, progressive and often relapsing condition that if left untreated can be fatal. In order to effectively treat addiction, it is useful to remember that while it can lead to many personal, social, physiological and health problems, it is truly a symptom of a greater problem that must be addressed holistically.A lack of housing, funds, transportation and personal support can become barriers to treatment when these are not addressed.  The First Step outreach worker can help by supplying information and referral, providing support during the process of finding help during the search for appropriate treatment options, and connecting the client to other resources to begin recovery before and after formal treatment.

The Cornerstone outreach worker can be reached in person at the Community Soup Kitchen or by phone at (973) 722-4896.
