The Neighborhood House was full of excitement Friday afternoon as Enrichment Coordinator, Adia Harris and our wonderful MSU Intern, Astrid Chong led a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new afterschool library! Adia spearheaded this initiative to get students excited about reading and to cultivate a welcoming, fun environment for words to flow freely from page to imagination! Adia and Astrid designed and hand-painted every detail. The colorful door welcomes students as they enter, a fun painted wall shows their favorite celebrities indulging in books, bean bag chairs and pillows surround the room for comfy seating, a monthly spotlight section showcases different authors and books are organized by reading level like students find them at their school library.
Friday was a soft opening for staff to see the new space but stay tuned for next week when our students get to see their new library for the very first time!
