Imagine being only four years old and your family has had to move four times in one year. That’s the reality for Danny, a sweet boy in our Morristown Neighborhood House preschool program. Just a few weeks ago, the apartment where he and his family lived was destroyed in a fire. They lost nearly everything. With so much uncertainty and instability in his life, Danny finds comfort in the routines, relationships, and joyful learning he experiences at the Neighborhood House.
For children like Danny, our Summer Camp is more than just a fun way to spend the summer – it’s a source of consistency, healing, and hope.
And then there’s lively eight-year-old Lena. Her mom is a single parent and the full-time caregiver for Lena’s older brother Miguel, who is disabled. Their financial struggles recently caused Lena to stop attending the Neighborhood House, even though she had been part of our afterschool and summer camp for years. Every day, Lena gets off the school bus and walks past the Neighborhood House, longing to be inside with her friends, learning, playing, and just being a kid.
These two young children are facing incredibly grown-up challenges. But with your support, we can give them the summer they deserve—a summer filled with laughter, friendships, field trips, and the nurturing care they need to thrive.
