Dr. Judy L. Banks, a lifelong resident of Morris County, New Jersey, is a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist. She is currently the Associate Residency Program Director for the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey.
Dr. Bank’s career in medicine reflects the monumental strides made by women in medicine. Having begun her training at a time when males dominated medicine, Dr. Banks teaches a generation of learners where women constitute 37% of the physician workforce, and in 2018, 50.2% of medical school enrollees. Dr. Banks began her career in clinical practice as a Teaching Attending at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and established a private practice in Florham Park, New Jersey, which she closed after 30 years of service to teach new physicians.
Dr. Banks has an unyielding passion for Women’s Health Care and the issues affecting its availability within communities, both near and far. Dr. Banks is pleased that her current position allows her opportunities to participate in Global Health Projects. In this role she has been able to share these experiences with her young colleagues and mentees. For several years, OB/GYN residents have participated in Cervical Cancer Screening clinics as part of a Hospital Global Health Elective in partnership with the non-profit organization, Hands Up for Haiti. These endeavors not only bring aid to the recipients, but also promote an awareness of need, circumstance, history, and culture of resilient Haitians worthy of respect and sound medical support. Dr. Banks has also served as a Trustee of Daysprings/Ministries Haiti, in an ongoing partnership with the Light & Peace Missions and Churches in Haiti, and has also participated in missions in Haiti for over twenty years.
Dr. Banks has been the recipient of numerous community service, professional, and teaching awards. In 2014 she was presented with the “National Faculty Award” from the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists. She received a “Champion of Scholarship and Excellence” recognition from Saint Elizabeth University in 2016. While in private practice, Dr. Banks was voted by her peers to be included the publication, Top Doctors of the New York & Metro Area for nine consecutive years.
Dr. Banks believes in giving back to the local community. She is a member of the following organizations and associations: Board of Directors Cornerstone Family Programs & Morristown Neighborhood House, The Board of Directors of The Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation, Morris County (NJ) Chapter of The Links Incorporated, Life Member of the NAACP, member of the State Conference Health Committee, Health Chair of the Morris County Branch, and a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Committee.
In closing, Dr. Banks often reflects on her amazing life and career in medicine in total gratitude and looks forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the next generation of women physicians.
