Judy L. Banks, M.D.
Dr. Judy Banks is a lifelong resident of Morris County, New Jersey. She is a graduate of Morristown High School, The College of St Elizabeth, and Meharry Medical School in Nashville, TN. Dr. Banks is a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist. She completed her specialty training at New Jersey College of Medicine & Dentistry. She began her career in clinical practice as a teaching attending at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and later established a successful, private practice in Florham Park, New Jersey that she managed for 30 years.
Dr. Banks currently serving as the Associate Residency Program Director for the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at Morristown Medical Center. The residency program is one of 241 nationwide, and Dr. Banks is privileged to be tasked with helping prepare the next generation of Women’s Reproductive Health Specialists. Dr. Bank’s career in medicine reflects the monumental strides made by women in medicine. Having begun her training at a time when males dominated medicine. She is teaching a generation of learners, where women constitute 37% of the physician workforce, and in 2018, 50.2% of medical school enrollees.
Dr. Banks has been the recipient of numerous community service, professional, and teaching awards. In 2012, Dr. Banks received the House Staff Teaching Award from the Department of Family Practice. In 2014, she was presented with a “National Faculty Award” from the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists. She received a “Champion of Scholarship and Excellence” recognition from the College of St Elizabeth in 2016. While in private practice Dr. Banks was voted by her peers to be included in the publication “Top Doctors of the New York Metropolitan Area” for nine consecutive years.
Recognizing that women everywhere meet the challenges associated with and nurturing their families, Dr. Banks is passionate about their healthcare and the issues affecting its availability. She is pleased that her current position allows her to include her work in international projects, and in particular to be able to share her interest in Haiti with young colleagues. She and several of her OB/GYN residents have participated in clinical projects in Cap Haitian, Haiti as part of a Global Health Elective. In addition, for many years Dr. Banks served as a Trustee of Daysprings Ministries Haiti, an ongoing partnership with the “Light & Peace” Missions and Church in Haiti.
Dr. Banks believes in giving back to the local community and her sphere of influence extends beyond the medical realm. She is a member of the Board of Directors, The Hope Chest Scholarship Foundation, and a charter member of the Morris County Chapter, The Links Incorporated. A Life Member of the NAACP, she currently serves as the Health Chair for the Morris County Unit. She is a lifelong member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Morristown, NJ. She has also served on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Committee for many years.
Dr. Banks has also been locally recognized in numerous ways, including with a listing on the Heritage Club’s “Wall of Fame” at Morristown High School and as the first recipient of Morris County Jack & Jill’s Global Philanthropy and Community Service Award at its inaugural HerStory Gala in 2013.
She reflects on her amazing life in gratitude and looks forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the next generation of women physicians.
